What to do in Arizona.
The Grand Canyon:
The Grand Canyon is one of the state’s most popular attractions. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 kilometres) in length. At its widest point the Grand Canyon stretches 18 miles (29 kilometers) across and at its narrowest point it stretches 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) across. Also, the Grand Canyon is around 6000 feet (more than a mile!) deep.
The Painted Desert
the Painted Desert is known for its brilliant and varied colors, that not only include the more common red rock, but even shades of lavender. The desert is composed of stratified layers of easily erodible siltstone, mudstone, and shale of the Triassic Chinle Formation. Much of the region is accessible only by foot or unpaved road though major highways and paved roads cut across the area.
The Hoover Dam
Physically, Hoover Dam is a massive, concrete arch-gravity dam, 660 feet thick at its base and wide enough at its crest that traffic on old U.S. 93 coursed right over its top. The Hoover Dam also has a complex history.
The London Bridge
In the early 1960s, officials in England made a troubling discovery: London Bridge was falling down. London ended up selling the bridge to Robert McCulloch, Missouri-born industrialist. “I had this ridiculous idea of bringing it to the Arizona desert,” he later joked to the Chicago Tribune Magazine. “I needed the bridge, but even if I didn’t, I might have bought it anyway.” All told, the shipping, assembly and dredging took over three years and cost some $7 million, but it was built.
There are many many amazing things to see in Arizona, many people think that Arizona is a barren desert with nothing but cacti to see. Many people are wrong.
